RobotORRI

Advancing the robotics ecosystem in Southeast Europe — open, responsible, and built around real-world impact.

Open Research Industry × Academia DEI in Robotics SE Europe

The RobotORRI project is a bold initiative designed to advance the robotics ecosystem in Southeast Europe by building a more inclusive, collaborative, and innovative environment. The project focuses on enhancing research capabilities, fostering meaningful industry partnerships, and integrating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles into robotics development and implementation. By addressing key challenges and promoting open and responsible research and innovation (ORRI), RobotORRI aims to contribute significantly to societal advancement, economic development, and the sustainable application of robotics technology to solve real-world problems.

Five objectives, one mission.

/ 01 Mapping and engaging the robotics community +
The first objective is to conduct a thorough mapping and outreach effort across Southeast Europe to identify and connect with robotics researchers, students, and innovators. This process involves understanding their focus areas and skills, laying the foundation for capacity-building programs to strengthen the region's robotics research community.
/ 02 Building research and innovation capacity +
To address the gaps and opportunities identified through the mapping exercise, RobotORRI develops and delivers workshops and training sessions on open innovation practices, research ethics, gender considerations, societal impacts, and the commercialization of research. This initiative equips participants with the skills to excel in academic and industrial settings.
/ 03 Enhancing industry engagement +
Recognizing the importance of industry collaboration, the project conducts market scouting to identify key partners in robotics application domains. Tailored training sessions help industry managers understand and implement open innovation practices. We work with industry partners to define specific robotics-based challenges aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
/ 04 Facilitating networking and knowledge exchange +
RobotORRI organizes networking days, interactive workshops, and the RobotORRI Café — a unique platform for dialogue and collaboration. These events engage researchers, industry stakeholders, policymakers, and the public in meaningful discussions on social and industrial challenges.
/ 05 Promoting open and responsible research and innovation +
The project strengthens the understanding and implementation of ORRI principles among researchers and industry professionals — through training, mentorship, and the development of enabling conditions at the institutional level, such as supportive policies and reward systems for ORRI integration.

How we deliver.

Strategic activities executed across the lifetime of the project, with concrete targets and measurable outcomes.

/ 01 · Outreach

Comprehensive mapping

A targeted outreach campaign to identify and engage over 100 robotics researchers, students, and innovators within the first three months — building the foundation for capacity programs.

/ 02 · Capacity

Workshops & training sessions

At least seven structured workshops on open innovation, ethical research practice, societal impacts, gender equity, and research-to-market transition — targeting 85% participant satisfaction on inclusivity and relevance.

/ 03 · Industry

Market scouting & engagement

Identifying ten key industry partners and running seven tailored training sessions within six months — leading to five market-driven robotics challenges aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

/ 04 · Network

Networking days & RobotORRI Café

Three major networking events, seven workshops, and a series of public debates with keynote speakers, demos, and discussions on robotics' societal and industrial applications.

/ 05 · Dissemination

Promotion & dissemination

Regular updates on achievements and capacity-building activities through partner websites, social media, and newsletters — contributing tools and best practices to the wider ORRI community.
